The application deadline for this year’s contest is now closed!
Over the next several days, our team will be reviewing applications and will reach out to any students we may require more information or documentation from. We'll announce our lucky, randomly selected winners on or by Friday, July 10. Good luck!
The application for this year's Scholarship Contest is now closed.
If more clarification is needed, we strongly encourage the scholarship applicants to contact us themselves. Parents and teachers aren't the ones applying, after all!
Who is eligible to apply?
Undergraduate, graduate, dependent, non-dependent, and returning adult students are all eligible to apply, so long as they will be enrolled full-time at an accredited school for the 2020-2021 academic school year and are a 3Rivers member. This DOES include graduating high school seniors who are entering their first year of college in fall of 2020.
New members who have recently transitioned to 3Rivers from West End ARE eligible to apply!
Though current 3Rivers employees and board members are NOT eligible to apply, our employees’ and board members’ dependents ARE eligible to apply!
How can I become a 3Rivers member?
What constitutes “full-time” enrollment?
While every school has different credit hour requirements to meet “full-time” enrollment, for most schools, this requires 12 credit hours or more. If you’re unsure, please contact your university’s college advisor to see what constitutes full-time at your school.
What qualifies as “proof of enrollment?”
A screenshot, photo, or scanned copy of a letter of acceptance to an accredited school or your 2020 fall course schedule will meet this requirement.
Can I apply if I’ve not yet been accepted to a school, have not yet decided on a school, or think I might be transferring schools?
Yes! You can still apply. In place of uploading your proof of enrollment, simply upload a document that contains the line, “Proof of enrollment forthcoming.” If you are selected to receive a scholarship, we’ll hold the check until you can provide proof of enrollment.
How “official” does my transcript need to be?
A screenshot, photo, or scanned copy of your transcript as it appears on your school’s student portal, or that you’ve been presented with physically or via email, will suffice. We do NOT need an official transcript with the seal, etc. from your university and cannot accept physical transcripts.
My school is requiring me to pay for an official transcript and/or wants to send my transcript to you by mail. What should I have them do?
We do not need an official transcript. If you are able to screenshot your most recent courses, grades, and GPA through your university’s online portal, or snap a photo of a physical transcript, this will suffice.
If your school’s Registrar Office insists on sending the transcript themselves, this is also acceptable, but please note that we can only accept electronic versions.
Electronic copies can be sent via email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line, “Transcript for [YOUR NAME].”
If your school’s Registrar Office has questions or concerns, please direct them to this page or have them contact us directly.
You require proof of a 3.5 or higher GPA, but my school doesn't operate on a 4.0 grading scale.
That's okay! We require a (cumulative) 3.5 GPA or equivalent , so if your school operates on solely a letter grade system, a 12.0 scale, or other grading scale, you just need to ensure your GPA converts to a 3.5 or higher. There are several online calculators you can use to convert your GPA to a 4.0 grading scale, or you can reach out to your guidance counselor or college advisor to confirm!
I'm having trouble accessing the application and/or uploading documents.
While an application can be completed on any device, we do recommend using Chrome or Firefox browsers and ensuring you have a strong Internet connection before getting started.
If a hiccup occurs in the middle of your application, try saving it (see directions below) and then refreshing the page or completely shutting down the browser and jumping back in.
If you're only having issues when it comes to uploading your documents, check to see if they fit the file formats (.jpg, .jpeg, .pdf, .doc, .png) and size limits listed on the application. If they’re too big, try decreasing the size in a photo or document editor.
If you continue to have technical issues, contact us and we'll work with you to troubleshoot the issue.
I forgot to upload one of my documents, or am having trouble uploading the documents via the application form.
No problem! Simply attach the documents to an email with the subject line, “Additional Scholarship Application Documents – [YOUR NAME]” and send it to email@example.com.
If I begin the application but need to step away from my computer, can I save my progress and continue later?
Yes! You are welcome to work on your application in more than one sitting by following these steps.
- At the bottom of the application screen, you’ll see link that says, “Save and Continue Later” (desktop) or a Save icon (mobile.)
- Upon clicking this, you’ll be prompted to enter your email. Enter your email, and a link to your application will be sent to you.
- Open the email, click the provided link, and you’ll be taken back to where you left off!
If for some reason you do not receive the email, or misplace it, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will do our best to retrieve your application and send it to you.
How do I know my application has been successfully submitted?
After you submit your application, you should immediately see a screen confirming your submission, and within several minutes, receive an email confirmation as well.
I already submitted my application, but realized there was something I wanted to add to my application and/or essay. Or I’d simply like to redo it all. Can I resubmit a new application?
Sorry, because of the volume of applications and documents we receive over the course of the entry period, we will only allow one submission per entrant in order to help us keep proper track. We encourage you to thoroughly read all instructions, double check that you’ve attached the appropriate documents, and proofread your essay before submitting the final version to us to ensure everything is accurate. That being said, if you’ve mis-typed or left out important information (address, phone number, etc.) we will reach out to you for clarification.
I missed the deadline due to technical difficulties, misreading the deadline date or time, procrastination, etc. Can I still be considered if I'm a few minutes or hours late?
Sorry! The deadline to apply is 12:00 PM EST (noon, not midnight!) on Wednesday, July 1, 2020. Any applications received after this time will not be taken into consideration. Please use your time wisely, and plan to complete the application well in advance of the deadline to avoid any potential issues.
If you do experience technical difficulties at any time during the application process, please contact us detailing the issues you're having BEFORE 11:00 AM EST on July 1.
How and when will I be notified if I win a scholarship?
Scholarship winners will be notified first by email (the email provided on the application, so please be sure it's accurate), and then, pending no response, by phone. Any email contact from us will come from "Scholarship" (email@example.com) and/or firstname.lastname@example.org.
We will contact all applicants with the results on or by Friday, July 10, 2020.
Will I be contacted even if I don’t win?
Yes, we contact each and every applicant to inform them whether or not they’ve won.
If I win, what happens next?
We’ll ask you to confirm your mailing address and sent your check via USPS within a few weeks of contacting you. Please be sure the address you provide is one you will be residing at when the check arrives (don’t give us your college dorm address if you’ll be living back at home for the summer)!
Winners MUST respond by email or phone by 5:00 PM EST on Friday, July 24. If we are unable to make contact with winners by this time, they risk forfeiting their prize to another randomly selected applicant.
Scholarship checks will be made out in the winner’s name as well as the name of their school. We suggest presenting the check in-person to your college’s bursar office.
NOTE: Some universities may lessen (or void) any existing grants or scholarships you’ve received from them should you receive scholarship funds from an outside organization. We encourage you to check in with your university’s financial aid office to ensure that, should you win extra scholarships like this one, you won’t lose out on anything they’ve already granted you!
What kinds of rules and regulations apply to the Scholarship Contest?
We have them all written out for you on our Official Rules page!
Can I submit more than one entry to increase my chances of winning?
No. Only one entry per applicant is allowed. If you submit multiple applications, only your first submission will be considered and included in our final selection drawing.
I have other questions not listed here. Who should I contact?
We’d be happy to assist you, and encourage scholarship applicants (hey, your parents aren’t the ones applying, after all) to contact us at email@example.com or 260.490.8328 for more information.
